Rally 96 - Because I Can - Birdham, W Sussex, 24-26 April 2009
by Danielle Mann
From 24th to the 26th of April, my family and I went to a town called Birdham - near Chichester, for a rally being held by Tim and Caroline Ayres, Reg and Margaret Eamer. This was Reg and Margaret’s first time rally marshalling and might I say I really enjoyed it.
Firstly, on Friday, everybody arrived and started setting up. My friend Sian and I decided we would sleep in her pup tent. As well as my sister and Rachel slept in our pup tent. Later on that evening was tea and coffee in the big tent, but all of the kids played a giant game of hide and seek. I got very muddy and cold.
Saturday, we woke up to lovely sunny weather even though the heavens had opened during the night. We played football until lunch time, then some of the kids went and played timber. Tony and Brian fell asleep so Lucy painted their nails a bright pink. It was so funny. Later on that evening all the men got their ‘fancy’ BBQ’s out and cooked dinner. We all sat down in the big tent for the evening, there were quizzes and games all evening.
Sunday, we woke up to even better weather than Saturday. We had flag, it started with one of my grandad's (Peter Vowles) silly jokes AGAIN……. The competition winners were announced, I won the teenagers, my sister won her age group and Rachel won hers. And for the adult competition, the rally marshals won it. I think it must have been a fix... hee hee. There was raffle but I only won one thing and it was my Nan's ticket, not mine. Later on that day I played football with the kids while our parents packed up ready to leave. My Grandad joined in which was so funny because he kept slipping over and doing the splits… just face it… grandads should just sit in their Lafumas with a sherry and have their afternoon nap. After that we got in the car and went home ready for a goods night's sleep.
I really enjoyed that rally and I can't wait till they hold another one.
