electrical problems in new van

Postby nicke » March 31st, 2009, 5:44 pm

:) Hi everyone. as a new member with a big problem ,I wonder if anyone can help me? We purchased a new swift Blakemere van (charisma 540 dealer special) last august and owing to a serious medical problem we are only just starting to use the van.went away begining of March to Troutbeck site for first weekend on our own and loved it.On Sunday morning we lost mains power in the van, having checked it out it appears there was feed into the mains circuit breaker then nothing out to the control unit.rang the dealers to arrange for repairs only to be told they were very busy and could not do anything until friday 27th. It is now tuesday the 31st and we have just been informed that the battery charger is faulty and will take 2 to 3 weeks to replace, cannot use van ,even on mains as water pump operates on 12v as does control panel. Was booked in at 2 sites for Easter hols with grandchildren now having to cancel. Is this normal for 2 to 3 week delay in getting new parts fitted under warranty.is there any way we can use the van with mains hook up and get over the battery not charging yet keep the water pump, fridge and heating operating, without 12v.

Hi

Have a word with Sargents tech guy

Karl Hulse Technical Support
direct number is 01482 678981.
web site http://www.sargentltd.co.uk/

Reports on various forums as to a faulty batch of power units Karl may be able
to offer some advice ie exchange unit if you can install it your self / comp person

Other option is to temp install a domestic car battery charger using the lowest amp setting the van battery will have to be checked on a regular basis so as not to over charge / damage the battery

Thanks for that. Things are finally getting sorted. After numerous calls to Swift, all of which assured us they would sort and call us back,(none did) they finally admitted there was a problem with the charger and contacted the dealer .only took all week ! result. a new charger is on its way and we should have the van back for Easter. we have lost the first week of hols thanks to swifts pathetic attempt at customer service. but hey, the sun is shining, and lifes too short to be grumpy all the time.
