newbie Q re NE190 control panel???????

Postby DefenderBlack » April 27th, 2009, 11:43 pm

Hello,

New to caravaning, have a sprite major 6 (2009 model), towed by a Land Rover Defender 90.

My question is when towing what setting do i set my NE190 control panel too for charging the battery and running the fridge?? Do i use the car symbol or the caravan symbol ??

The pump symbol, when do i use switch that on/off?

I was shown at the dealers, but the salesman was about 19 and new to it all and kept contradicting himself!

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Hi Paul

The car connected to the van will automatically charge the van battery
Set the fridge to 12 volt and again the car will supply 12 volt
( all above provided the car "S" socket is wired correctly)

The CAR selection on the control panel is the for emergency use

If you are not on mains hook up and the van battery go's flat, then the car battery can be used by selecting the car setting

Note Only for emergency use this will drain the car battery

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info. The dealer said that i had to when towing that i should put the caravan symbol to on, do i need to do this or will the fridge on 12v supply just get it automatically.

What about the tap symbol (pump?) do i need to put that on when i arrive on site?

Thanks again for you help.

Hi Paul,

Dave is correct, the leisure battery is charged automatically when towing, independent on which setting the control panel. The fridge is also the only device active in the vehicle, when towing.

The pump (tap symbol) needs to be turned on when on site, so that the pump receives power. If it is off, you will not be able to get water to the taps.

I hope that helps.

For the fridge to work when being towed the fridge has to be set to 12v (obvious) and the rocker switch has to be set to VAN (not obvious). Don't ask me why but it's true - I found that out the hard way :?

Hi Mike,

Paul has a different (newer) panel to you, there is no "rocker" switch on the NE190, and in his case, the control panel setting has no influence on whether the fridge receives power from the tow car.
