Fridge Heating Element --??-- This is a HARD one --??--

Postby SMC » July 9th, 2009, 7:16 pm

Electrolux fridge works on Gas and 12volts (Cools well; Checked with internal probe /external digital thermometer.)

Replacement 240v 125watt heating elements FAIL (goes open circuit) :tried two elements now!!!!!

(a) one after an hour
(b) one after 24hours. (Thermostat cycles nicely.)

Checked for shorts, compatability, no signs of overheating, no damp, cleaned flue, reassembled correctly as per previous heating element which lasted for years and years and years.

Only things I can't check are
(1) faulty manufacture one element dated 05/09 other dated 06/09.
(2) something else??????????????????????????

Any ideas

I think you are right in suspecting faulty heater elements. I have changed several of these and never had one fail in less than a few years. Send them back to the supplier and get your money back. Then try another supplier.

It might be worth talking to Dometic about the problem. Their technical support number is 0844 626 0130.

Do let us know how you get on as this problem could well affect others.
