Digital tv aerials?

Postby sc_williams50 » October 31st, 2009, 2:18 pm

Hello. I am the one who just posted the query about the batteries. I forgot to ask also if anyone out there can reccommend a really good TV aerial to watch digital progs? The prices range from thousands to 50 quid. very confusing for the novice.

If you have the Status 315 (flying saucer) aerial on the top of your van it is possible for it to be replaced with one of the 530 types. These are directional and perform much better when properly set up. Replacement is relatively straight forward but you would need an adapter plate and mastic.

The simplest solution is to buy a free standing aerial and mount it on a pole. Look for ones that say they are wideband and high gain. The rule of thumb says the more elements an aerial has the better it will perform. Don’t forget you may be able to improve the performance of the aerial by using the booster from the Status flying saucer aerial.

For portable use consider something like the ‘Image 420’ aerial. It’s only about £23 but has a performance normally associated with much larger aerials. You can get if from many caravan accessory shops. In case of difficulty try Leisure Power in Warrington (01925 234 888).
