Awning sizes

Postby Soggy » July 21st, 2007, 11:34 am

Hi Everyone,
I have just purchased my first Swift Caravan. Its a 2000 Swift Challenger 490se. I am very pleased with it, but have a few questions which mat have been answered before my time in here.

Could anyone tell me the best size awning for my caravan. I believe it should be in the 975 / 1000 region but would like to hear from current owners if they fit well. A dealer gave me dimensions for my last caravan and we found it quite hard to get it clipped down all around.

Thanks in advance for any help given,

Soggy (Garry)

According to my info your 2000 Swift Challenger 490se has an awning size of 953 cm. You can check this yourself ny measuring the total length of the awning rail and then adding an amount to cover the gap to the ground at each end. An easy way to do this is with a piece of string and 2 ground pegs.

Hi Ted,

Thanks for your advice, my local dealer told me 950cm's. So could be to small already, which feels like the trouble I had with my last van.

Im guessing the side panels are the same size, so the added length must be in the roof section.

Does anyone know how to size up an awning to know what size they are?

Soggy,

It's as Ted mentioned before. Awnings are sized by the length of the bit which attatches to the van. If you run some string along the channel and peg it out on the floor at each end, then measure the string you have the awning size. 950cm is only an inch less than 953cm so won't be a problem.
