2007 AGM - Southwell Racecourse, Notts

5-9th May 2007

The Club held its 36th Annual General Meeting rally at Southwell Racecourse in Nottinghamshire at the beginning of May. Some 100 outfits turned out for what was great 4 day weekend.  The rally opened on the Thursday and, despite the cold weather, the BBQ's were soon going. More outfits arrived on the Friday and by the evening a large crowd had gathered at the tea tent to partake of the refreshments and enjoy the socialising.

On Saturday lunchtime the marshals provided us with sausage and bacon rolls along with steaming hot tea and coffee - scrumptious! In the afternoon we set out to explore the local area and ended up at the newly restored Southwell workhouse. It is owned by the National Trust and well worth a visit. In the evening we all gathered in the stadium bar for a drink and Club member Tony Hawkins provided us with some background music. Towards the end of the evening the music proved infectious and a small crowd invaded the dance floor.

The AGM itself was held on the Sunday morning followed by an open forum for members to raise any topics they wished. On Sunday evening we were entertained by Steve Carlisle (ex Searchers) and 'Dancin' Dave & Vicky who did their best to get us all to jive. The evening had a 1960's them and quite a few dressed up to look the part. Afterwards all agreed it had been a fantastic evening.

On Monday morning we held the usual Flag meeting and at the end Keith Phipps entertained us as he hosted the grand raffle. Once again some great prizes were on offer and quite a few members walked away very happy indeed.

An AGM rally is a major event to organise and is at least one year in the planning. Many people work hard to make it happen and I would like to pay tribute to them here. Thanks very much to you all. Your work is appreciated!
