Brayford Leisure open weekend rally

Thorpe-on-the-Hilln, Lincoln

12th - 14th September 2008

This rally was attended by over 40 units eager to preview the 2009 caravans at the Open Day of the Coupland families Brayford Leisure Caravan Centre, Thorpe on the Hill, near Lincoln.

The weather nearly spoiled the occasion as Friday saw heavy rain as units arrived. The rally field had been laid out with precsion in order to fit everyone in. Four x fours around the outside and 2wd in the middle facing down the slight slope. We need not have worried though as the sun came out for both Saturday and Sunday to complete an excellent weekend.

The caravan centre was open to the public as well as the SOC, many new 'vans were on display. Free food and refreshments kept members fed and watered  on both days.

On the Saturday evening a building on site had been cleared to make way for the entertainment. First of all we were all treated to a compimentary fish, chip and pea supper, washed down with a glass of wine. After supper flag was held and the raffle drawn. This was followed by 'caravan racing', which involved four people chosen by a ticket draw to operate fishing rods and line attached to model caravans. Lanes were marked out and halfway down the track was an obstacle. First to reach this and the game stopped, all four people then had to do a forfeit. These were very funny to watch. After the forfeit the reeling in continued to the finish line. Each winner received a prize. All the entertainment was carried out by, and provided free of charge by, the Coupland family. The evening was rounded off by a disco.

This was a first class rally courtesy of the generosity of the Coupland family and the staff at Brayford Leisure. Many thanks to the marshals, David & Tracy Falshaw and Dean & Dawn Robinson
