A Welcome in the Hillside

Crickhowell, Powys

27-29th June 2008

We were welcomed in the hillside by our marshals Wayne & Andrea James, together with Martin & Sue Page ably assisted by Amy, Nicole and friend Danielle. The hillside was also very welcoming with glorious views from the rally field of Sugar Loaf and Table Top mountains. We had a spectacular show of rainbows deep in the valley on Friday evening - see the photo! We were all treated to Andrea's home made bakestones (Welsh Cakes) freshly cooked on the griddle in the T tent for Friday evening tea and coffee.

On Saturday, some of our ralliers took up the challenge (well done Alec & Cheryl Yates) to walk to the top of Table Top mountain, whilst others ventured off to the local attractions including Blaenavon Big Pit (it was National Heritage Day) , Abergavenny, Crickhowell and even Cardiff (Vonnie made Dave go!) for shopping sprees.

The highlight of the rally came on Saturday evening, when, courtesy of the Irish rally and ably organised by Amy, Nicole and Danielle, we all took part in "The Mini-Olympics". Everyone took part, and the photos show some of the fun we all had. Well done to the 3 young ladies! Wayne James was suitably disqualified for cheating and spoken to very sternly by Amy at flag when she announced the winners - Dave Bubb for the adults and Danielle for the youngsters.

On Sunday we were treated to a 200th rally cake even though it wasn't anybody's 200th rally - this will make a good quiz question for a future competition! (For the answer - see the write up of the previous week's rally at Bake Farm, Coombe Bissett).
