2007/8 New Year Rally - Newbury Sleeping Beauty

Grateful thanks to Sarah Crossley and Tony Goodsell, Brian and Denise Parsons and Dennis and Marion Tomlin and all their families. It was a wonderful rally and only the second Swift New Year rally at Newbury they had attended.

When we arrived the young ones were watching out for caravans coming down the lane and then went in and told Sarah and Tony who gave us our paperwork an sited the vans. The food was excellent. On Saturday night we had soup and a choice of baked potatoes with different fillings and delicious deserts and on Sunday, for the candlelit supper, we had a 4 course meal with a choice of pork or beef with all the trimmings. We were entertained by a duo call "Sunset" Kelly and Dave who sang during and after the meal. They were very good and not too loud so we could talk to our neighbours. We also had an excellent buffet on New Year's eve. Most of the wine was supplied including mulled wine, bucks fizz and Champagne. There was a very good raffle - all the prizes were wrapped in cellophane paper with a red rose tied on the front.

On New Year's Eve we had a panto based on Sleeping Beauty. Alison Deakin was the narrator and prompt, looking very glamorous in a black velvet gown. The panto was a laugh. It started off with Swan Lake with Ken Baldrey, Dennis Tomlin and Nigel Deacon dressed in pink tutus and black boots. They only had time for one rehearsal so their lines were hidden all over the place. Ken kept his down his tutu. It ended with Richard Ryves coming on in his wheelchair, converted to a bright pink dumper truck, and sprayed us all with a big water cannon.

All the team worked so hard - thank you for a lovely rally.
