This was an extra rally to enable ralliers to do some last minute shopping in nearby York. Clive and Gill Bevan marshalled the rally. Two units arrived on the Thursday night that was very cold. We made the most of the EHU but it still took ages to warm the ‘van up.

Next morning saw the arrival of the majority of the 25 brave souls to venture out in the run up to Christmas. We went to Selby and later onto the McArthur Glenn shopping outlet, as I suspect many bargain hunters did during the weekend.

Saturday dawned to a cold, windy and rainy day. We ventured into York using the park & ride. York was very busy with all the usual attractions including a continental market. The trip was spoiled by the wet weather, so it was back on the bus and following a visit to Asda return to site. In the evening “flag” was held in the site bar. The usual formalities were conducted with Clive and Gill in fine form. Clive made a plea for marshals to come forward for 2010 and also for someone to step up to be the area 2 committee member, as he will be standing down at the 2009 AGM.

To round off the evening a presentation was made to Paul and Jenny Holroyde to celebrate their 300th SOC rally. Colin Patterson did the honours with stories of the escapades of Paul and Jenny on various rallies, mostly wet occasions, until Paul acquired a mud plugging Land Rover. Apparently the sun has shone ever since on a Holroyde rally! A lovely cake was provided. Despite the rain and cold all had a good time.

Thank you Gill and Clive.
