Would you take the plunge and Marshal your first rally for the Club in Interlaken? Well Keith & Jenne Essam did. Though talking to them, it was obviously not the first time they have organised extraordinary rallies nor a stanger to this site. A big thank you to them not only for ‘organising’ our holiday but allowing us to share their experiance of the site, the views, the spectacular countryside and the organisation of Switzerland.

17 of us made it to Interlarken, though one member had ‘ a little trouble’ on the way and was delayed a week courtesey of Volvo!!!!!!!. The site was superb and we were all greeted by Stephan and his ‘green’ machine. We were all asked to unhitch the caravan and he would put the van on the pitch, levelled side to side while you sat down and had a tea/coffee with the marshal. This was definitely the way to set up the van when it was hammering it down with rain. Stephan and his family have created a superb site, beautifully clean with magnificent views of the mountains.

All visitors are issued with a free bus pass covering the town of Interlaken, giving access to the shops, important for some, and the railway stations. Most of us purchased a rail ticket entitling us to some free days of travel while only paying 50% for the other days. It was well worth the expense. This enabled us to visit the Jungfraujoch, boasting as the top of Europe and the Schilthorn, shown in a James Bond movie, and now houses a revolving restaurant. Most of us spent the days hopping off one train for another, or a bus or a cable car or a boat or all of these looking at the spectular scenery surrounding us and admiring the the clean streets and countryside and the ease of life in the area.

Keith & Jenne ensured that our evenings were also well catered for, with meals in the restuarant boat on the lake and and a evening of Swiss entertainment. This gave Kieth his opportunity to ‘blow a BIG horn’. Our Marshals very wisely brought along their son Jon. Jon was invaluable when it came to compiling the daily ‘informer’. He spent many late hours compiling and printing our own daily newspaper which was delivered bright early every morning by his assistant. (Jon if he had any sense was still asleep). There were one or two ‘moans’ about our daily quiz, when there were questions about the use of toilet rolls, or bars of soaps or litres of tears. However none of this was a problem to John & Val Rowe who produced 103 perfect answers out of 110 questions. Makes you wonder which books they read to learn all this useless information! Noddy or The Famous Five they aren’t!

The rally finished with a magnificent spread of nibbles, fruit and a cholate fountain, having had an excellent meal the night before in a local hotel. Oh and yes, when they offer to say “Would like us to organise transport to the venue” beware, as on two ocassions we were transported to our evening events on the local ‘Petit Train’ that is used during the day to take the tourists around the town, (but it was worth it). Well done Keith, Jenne & Jon, you did the Club proud with this holiday rally in Switzerland, Thank You
