Early Merley

Wimborne, Dorset

26th Feb- 1st Mar 2009

It was lovely driving through the forest on the way to Merley. It was a spring like day just as though Mother Nature was doing her best to wake the country side up. Day side the weather was like spring but the nights were much colder. Merely is a lovely well run camp site set in 15 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside with an on site shop who will organise newspapers for you if asked. There is also a bar and a restaurant. On Friday a lot more caravans arrived and there were actually 3 rallies running at the same time.

We met in gazebo city for tea and coffee in the evenings and Tony Elkins produced the wonderful gas heater which was very powerful so we were all nice and warm.

On Friday morning we went to see a friend who lives in a delightful thatched cottage just the type you would see on the front of a box of chocolates at Christmas. We used to camp in his field before we joined the SOC

On Saturday morning we were treated to fruit juice and bacon baps which was a nice start to the day. In the evening we went to the restaurant to have a fish and chip supper and then into the room behind to play skittles which was a lot of fun.

We left on Sunday and were surprised that there was so little traffic and we got home in 2 hours.

A big thank you to all our hard working marshals Pat and Pete Vowles and Tony and Cindy Elkins it was a lovely rally.
