2010 AGM Rally

Towcester Racecourse

29th April - 4th May 2010

“We don’t just need one hall any more; we need three”, said Ron Ward referring to the AGM rally at Flag on the Monday morning. A main meeting room, children’s play area, foreign rally meetings, Chairman’s Challenge and so on all require large areas out of the weather – and on the May bank holiday weekend. That’s where Towcester racecourse scores and why we will be using it again for our AGM next year when the Club will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Apart from the Saturday the weather was unseasonably cold and windy so those indoor areas were vital. Of course the weather was never going to dampen the enthusiasm of our ralliers who were determined to enjoy themselves regardless.

For those who could spare the time the rally was open from the Thursday right through to the Tuesday. This gave plenty of time to get to know fellow ralliers and to grab some retail therapy at Milton Keynes, roughly 12 miles away.

Of course the AGM is no ordinary rally. We had 120+ vans and motorhomes and lots going on. Here is a flavour:

  • Fish-n-chip van (great crispy food)
  • Evening socials with tea, coffee and drinks
  • Table top sale (a bit like a small car boot)
  • Photographic competition
  • Dress a bottle competition
  • Arts & crafts demo
  • Opportunity for new members to meet the committee and others.
  • Chairman’s Challenge
  • Social evening with background music then dancing later on
  • The Annual general meeting itself
  • An open forum for members to raise any matter they wished with the committee
  • Various meetings for those who will be going on one or more of our foreign rallies
  • An evening of great entertainment with a comedian and live music
  • A quiet room for those just wanting a chat

All this takes a huge amount of organisation and marshals Ron & Maureen Ward were able to enlist the help of a very large number of people, far too numerous to mention here. You know who you were so a heartfelt thanks to all for making this event so successful.
