Time for a Tee Rally

Bassett Down, Swindon, Wiltshire

9-11th July

We arrived on site on Thursday to find our van on its peg (our van is only stored 200 yards away so dad had kindly moved it for us), so 10 minutes later we were set up and ready for our weekend of relaxation! (I could certainly get used to the van being there ready and waiting on every rally!)

On Friday, the rest of our fellow ralliers arrived to join in the fun, everyone met for tea and coffee in the marquee, which was followed by an alcoholic beverage or two...

Saturday morning and the golfers on the rally set off for a friendly game of golf, however this was not your average game of golf for some... Never before have I seen a game of golf played by using one golf club, the one with the biggest surface area, then giving up and throwing the ball as far as possible and then taking a nap on the 8th tee (possibly the effects of the night before!) It turned out to be a fantastic day, thank you to Ron and Jo Schofield for organising it all, we look forward to the next round.

Saturday evening was a relaxed barbeque followed by a catch up with friends, we were also joined by the farm owners Will and Juliette, who had been reluctant to have a rally at the farm for years, but have now said we are welcome to come back anytime, so we must all be very sociable, friendly people.

Sunday morning was the usual gathering for flag and coffee, but there was some rather special presentations to be made to the golfers, certificates for all, including most time spent in the rough, most golf gloves (a certain person had 12 gloves, enough for everyone playing!) and many more. I won Best female player, granted I was the only female player, but I was still the best! The golf was won by Ron Schofield, who was awarded a glass golf ball and Steve Horn who won the wooden spoon with a rather impressive 99 points!!

Overall a fantastic weekend was had by everyone, thank you to the marshals, Ronnie and Jo Schofield and Mike & Jeanette Cartwright. We look forward to the next rally there!!
