Brayford Leisure Open Day

Thorpe on the Hill, Lincoln

10 - 12th Sept 2010

New Conqueror

Once again this rally was held to showcase the new range of Swift Caravans for the 2011 season. The rally was marshalled by Dave and Tracy Falshaw assisted by Dean and Dawn Robinson.

Forty-two units were cleverly manoeuvred onto the rally field on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. As in previous years the rally was free courtesy of the Coupland family and the staff of Brayford leisure.

The new caravans were on display over the weekend and ralliers gave them a thorough looking over. Free refreshments were provided during the viewing.

On Saturday evening we were invited to a 40’s theme get together in one of the site buildings which had been decked out with flags and bunting. Mr.Coupland had announced his plans for a themed night at the February Boat & Caravan Show. Dave did his best to inform everyone about it but not everyone was able to come prepared. Many did and made the atmosphere in the room into a real 1940’s event.

A pie, pea and chip supper was provided before the evening’s entertainment got going. A dance group, Jump Jive Alive, provided this. These two couples gave us a demonstration of typical dances of the era, dressed in suitable costumes. Then it was our turn.

The dance floor was filled with ralliers eager to try the moves to the music of Glenn Miller and the like. Next came a jive demonstration, not many takers from us though. At the end of the evening all the people who had dressed in the 1940’s style were judged for best costume/look.

The winners were, Ashley Benton for the children, Judy Fletcher for the ladies, and John Fletcher for the men. The singing of ‘We’ll meet again’ rounded off the night. I am sure we will in 2011, the rally is already on the calendar. A big thank you must go to the Mr. & Mrs. Coupland and family, all staff at Brayford Leisure and the marshals.
