Come for a Chuff & Puff

Bloxham Steam Rally,

nr Banbury, Oxon, 23-26 June 2011

What can you get for £25 these days? A takeaway for two perhaps, a couple of good bottles of wine, a quarter of a tank of fuel and so on - in other words not very much. How about 4 nights’ pitch fees (for those who stayed on for Sunday night) plus show entry for two adults for two days. That was the incredible value of the SOC rally at Bloxham Steam Fair. Oh and I nearly forgot the bacon baps and Buck’s Fizz breakfast on the Friday morning. Throw in some fantastic weather and you just know that rallying does not get much better than this.

It may have been Sharon Horn’s persuasive manner or Pete Coppenhall’s connection with the steam movement but somehow a great package deal was negotiated with the organisers.  Not surprising then that several other RV clubs were also present at the event, there must have been a couple of hundred caravans and motorhomes in all.

The show itself was a cracker with more than 30 steam engines plus stationary engines, organs, whistles, tractors, trucks, old cars, vintage caravans, bicycles, motorbikes, lawnmowers, models, a fun fair and all the usual sideshows and traders. It took two days to take it all in. Being on site and having tickets meant we did not have to queue to get in or out so the whole experience was most agreeable.

Enough from me, I’ll let the video and photos do the talking and just say a big thank you to the marshals - Steve & Sharon Horn and Pete & Margaret Coppenhall.
