Donnewell Farm at Sedgefield was the venue for this five night rally in the North East of England. A return visit to the site used last year for the Tall Ships rally. Once again it was marshalled by Alan and Leslie Winn and Phil and Patsy Capes. What a great job they did keeping us entertained all week. The rally opened on Tuesday and once settled in the boiler was on in the gazebo for the opening cuppa and chat.

Next day, as most of the day activities, was free and easy, time to explore the area or start the Sedgefield Scarper. This was a treasure trail around the village. Some people walked for miles (including us) to find all the clues.

In the evening we were invited to a Brains, Bingo, Bangers and Buns event. A local butcher, Bolam’s, gave us a sample of all the 18 flavours of sausage to try along with the ones purchased for the hot dogs. By the end of the night everyone was well and truly “sausaged out”.

On Thursday we had a Competitions, Cake, Cuppa and Chat evening in the gazebo. Several quizzes tested our film and history knowledge. Friday was ‘fish & chip’ night following an afternoon get together.

The main attraction was reserved for Saturday when the 41st Annual Medieval Fayre took place around the village green in Sedgefield. Craft stalls, BBQ food, fun fair, face painting, medieval knights, Punch & Judy and all manor of entertainment to keep the crowds amused and to raise money for the village.

In the evening after flag we had a Wine, Cheese and Nibbles meeting. Clive Bevan thanked the marshals on behalf of the ralliers and presented them with the usual piece of plastic. Judy and John Fletcher won the rally quiz based on Catch Phrase pictures with three correct entrants on the Sedgefield Scarper that Clive & Jill won on the turn of the cards.

The rally was well received, the weather was mainly dry and sunny but very windy. The high wind made packing up on Sunday quite difficult. Most units made an early getaway in order to avoid the high winds on the journey home.

Thanks again to Alan, Leslie, Phil and Patsy for a super rally.
