Spring into Burford Rally

Burford School, Oxon

16-18th March 2012

We arrived at the Marshals allotted time of 4pm, when most of the teachers should have gone home, to find the car park almost full.  Having parked the caravan close to the curb, we had to move, as no-one had told us there was a coach due and need the space to turn around!  Most cars disappeared with the arrival of the coach and caravans started to arrive at the rallying opening time of 5pm.  Unfortunately another coach turned up – chaos again!  As there were only 10 vans booked in,  we managed to get everyone parked together near the dining room we had hired for the weekend.  Before we knew it, it was time for tea and coffee (and something stronger).

Saturday was a free day to look around the area.  Most visited the  Burford High Street shops and the excellent local garden centre.  Doreen decided that she would cook everyone spaghetti bolognaises with garlic bread, followed by home grown plum crumble and ice cream on Saturday night.  The cost of this and a small social fee covered the hire of the hall for the weekend.  After the meal there was a quick flag followed by a not so easy quiz with the topic being “schools”.  Good fun was had by all as we realised how little we knew.

As flag was Saturday night most took advantage of the excellent weather to go out again on Sunday morning.  As marshals we decided to have a quick tidy up and read the papers, but I then had a lovely surprise as Laura, Stuart and Millie arrived straight from the airport to wish me a “Happy Mothers Day”.    The papers are still unread!

Thanks to Doreen and Hedley for a great rally and also thank you to Cheryl Powell for her help in the kitchen on Saturday.
