Michael & Jeanette Cartwright, Paul & Lyn Phillips and Jeff & Carole Way would like to thank all those who attended the above rally.
Many years ago, over a few glasses of wine (of course!!) it was discovered that we would all be celebrating our silver wedding anniversaries within 6 weeks of each other. At the time we said “we’ll have to organise a party rally” not realising how quickly it would come around. Although we agreed to do a lot of the organising, we needed to find a site central to the three of us and also a set of marshals. Carol Kibble, unfortunately now an ex-member, arranged the site and rooms for the entertainment. We were delighted when Len & Dot Field kindly offered to front the rally with the able assistance of John & Loretta Bennett and a special thank you is made to them for making this rally such a special event for us.

The rally was extended to commence on the Wednesday. Unfortunately Len had sited his van on the rally field on Tuesday evening but then it rained, and rained, and rained, so a last minute decision was made to use the car park. Half the rally arrived in the first few hours causing a bit of a nightmare for the marshals as some manoeuvring was required to get on to the pitches, but the ralliers were very patient! A total of 43 vans had arrived by Friday evening.

A pub quiz was held on Thursday evening but Friday saw the start of the partying. Several members went to the Student Bar on campus and after a few drinks the scene became quite raucous!! In fact the Swift members outlasted the younger students!! The Manager played music from our era and the bar staff moved all the tables and chairs, leaving a dance floor for the more energetic – which I think was about all 30 of us!!! Saturday night was party night starting with an American Supper with a wonderful range of food. This was followed by the cutting of the cake and a glass of bubbly to toast the happy couples. The ladies wedding dresses were on display, together with the wedding albums which showed we were young a long time ago!! Live music took us through the evening with the three couples having the first dance before everyone else joined in the dancing. A good evening was had by all.

At flag the rally presented each couple with a pink rose bush called “Silver Wishes” – a lovely thought and something we will remember for many years, as well as a super weekend of celebrations. Again, many thanks from us all.
