Awards Rally, Upton Nr Nuneaton, Warks
March 2006
The glitz, the glamour the designer dresses and tuxedo’s. Was this Hollywood?- no; London ? – no; Cannes? – no. It was Upton in Warwickshire where the first Bonkers Awards Rally was being held.
On Friday evening the pre Awards bash or the obligatory SOC tea and coffee was held. There was tension in the air as people eyed up their rivals in categories such as Competition of the year, Location of the year, BBQ of the year and others to numerous to mention.. .As these were purely personal to the marshals surprisingly Mr Bonkers love of aircraft did tend to influence some nominations. Saturday afternoon some of the attendees could be seen frequenting the local hostelry while others relaxed in the luxury Spa (otherwise known as the swimming pool!!)
Saturday evening came and there was so much glamour and bling in the room it rivalled the flash of the press photo call. As you arrived. pre-awards drinks were handed out The luxury academy building was slightly chilly to say the least .But then the serious business started and the luxury prestigious Bonkers awards, provided by the sponsor Howard Woodworking St Helens, were distributed to the worthy winners. As the gold envelopes revealed the winners fun was had by all with tear jerking speeches and simple thank-you's being given. There was one award not chosen by the marshals which was members rally of the year. All members were giving a voting slip and they were revealed as Trafalgar rally, AGM, Southport Xmas party and the winner was Swanwick New Year. The awards finished but there was a surprise for Mr and Mrs Bonkers who were handed a glitzy award by Allen Howard and David Hill to thank them for all their efforts. The evening then was rounded off by the sensational Nikki Lennard (who during the day is known by another name)
Keep your eyes peeled for the press release for the next one and maybe you could be a winner too.
