Swift Strictly Come Dancing

A couple of years ago suggestions were made to have an old type Swift rally, as a result of this, the idea of the Burford rally was born. What a tremendous rally it was, There were 22 vans all scattered around the school at Burford, the majority of which had electrics.

On the Saturday evening we quickstepped into the hall and were treated to an evening of ballroom dancing with some more modern stuff occasionally. Paul (Bruce Forsyth) Phillips was the evenings M.C. ably assisted by Dave Bubb (no he wasn’t wearing a dress) and a good job they made of it too. The quality of the dancing was superb; our senior members showed the younger members a thing or two when they took to the floor with their nifty footwork. They were so graceful to watch and so impressive, the markings from the judging panel were maximum points for you all and you all go through to the next round.

We then waltzed off for the American supper which was to a high standard and made up of a good and varied selection. I can never understand why the food at our rallies are always so varied as you would think that sometime it would be all the same but it never is there was sufficient for seconds for both courses the only tango I saw was on the dance floor I did not see anyone drinking tango but I did see other drinks being consumed. At the end of the evening there was a sort of slow foxtrot back to the caravans. A good time was had by all.

The weekend was also the birthday celebration for both Rob Kilby and Tom Chamberlain thank you both for sharing it with us.

Thanks to Tom & Beryl Chamberlain for sowing the seed and encouraging other dancers, Alan & Hazel Harris for organising the music and last but not least to our marshals Paul & Carol Roper and Dave & Janet Bubb a superb job by you all.

This is a rally that has set both a standard and a theme, surely it must become a regular event, and I look forward to the next one. In the meantime we have a lot of practising to do to get anywhere near to the standard set by our senior members.
