King of the Castle Caldicot Castle & Country Park, Caldicot, Monmouthshire 11-13th Sept 2009 |

Don’t believe it always rains in Wales, this weekend's weather was one of the best of this summer. We travelled down to Caldicott to spend the weekend with our Swift friends in the grounds of a Country Park in the middle of which was Caldicot Castle. We set up the caravan very close to its imposing walls, the location was quite spectacular.
They certainly live the part when they go away for the weekend, they even had a bar selling traditional ales and wines, which was open to residents only and as we were residents for the weekend we were invited. Some of us, in typical Swift fashion, had to sample some of ales etc. Well it was hot! but any excuse will do. The medieval group had demonstrations all over the weekend, some under the castle walls, and some inside it. We had man to man combat, archery displays, a medieval market and in the late afternoon a mock battle. I’ve decided it would be too hard a life to be around in those days, especially wearing armour in that weather. Saturday evening we all had a communal barbeque in the sunshine followed by an adjournment into an awning for an impromptu last night of the proms, with even more liquid refreshment. Well done to the marshals Mike and Nina for an excellent rally, excellent venue, their first as marshalling for the Swift Owners Club, more please. |
