Sizzlin' at Drove Lea
Drove Lea Farm, Titchfield, Hants.
11-13 September 2009
It certainly sizzled this weekend with perfect dry but windy weather. Yes, the sun did shine!
A very nice commercial site next to the historic Titchfield Abbey and close to Southampton and Portsmouth for sightseeing and shopping. Towsure at Southampton sold a lot of windbreaks etc.
This weekend saw the annual ‘Patnor Trophy’ barbecue competition and what a competition it was, judged by a professional chef. Every competitor had to cook two courses, one of which had to be a main course. Marks were given for menu, ingredients, cooking skill, presentation, table setting and most importantly, the quality of the cooked food. There was also a time limit.
It got very competitive between the ‘chefs’ with some amazing menus. It was a very close run competition but in the end there could only be one winner and that was Tony Goodsell with Sarah ‘laying the table’ (her words not ours!). Well done.
A sincere thank you to Linda Barton’s son Martin for judging and to Graham Barton for providing the ‘small tent’. Marshals will soon need to hire a pantechnicon for carrying equipment.
A good time was had by all and sincere thanks to the marshals, Linda & Graham Barton and Jan & Dave Spall.
